Try something different with your dog, try scentwork!

Scentwork is a great way of giving pups and dogs something amazingly fun and rewarding to do, provide them with an outlet or the most natural behaviours and give them essential stimulation. Karen is a Level 4 Scentwork UK trainer and will work individually with you to get your pup or dog started in this amazing activity.

Using their nose used to be critical to a dog's survival, however dogs today tend to be a bit out of practice.

Our dogs don’t have hobbies, read or watch TV and most don't go to work.  Life can get pretty boring for them... nosework is a great way of giving them something fun and rewarding to do, provides essential stimulation and gets them to use their noses again.

There are so many benefits and such a  lovely way to spend time with your pup or dog.

At present we are unable to offer group sessions, however you can book a family/121 session with Karen in the outside area at The Winlaton Centre to get started.

Benefits of nosework:

  • It is fun and rewarding
  • It fulfils many of a dogs natural instincts
  • Nosework gives them a job to do and helps prevent boredom
  • It builds confidence
  • Promotes independent working
  • A pleasantly tired dog usually means happy dog
  • They are less likely to engage in destructive behaviour
  • Activities are easy to do at home
  • All dogs can participate and enjoy it!.
We recently did Level 1 and the three weeks were invaluable.  We signed up to do it as it was something new and different and we weren't convinced that Pedro's nose was working at all!

The theory behind the course really helped us understand Pedro better and how his nose works! We now realise how we can incorporate nose work into his everyday life to enrich it.  The lessons we learned on the course were great, really practical and positive and things we could easily do at home.  We did out homework as saw how nose work really enriched his life.

It's amazing to see his little brain working and learning and progressing every week which really gives you a sense of pride.  In his final week he did a vehicle search and smashed it!  It's a great way for us to connect with him and keep his brain active.

I highly recommend Karen and her training classes.  Not only is she very knowledgeable about dogs, her Scentwork classes are great  fun too.  The classes were varied and interesting and I learnt loads.
